About URA Girls Lacrosse
Since our inception, the mission of the URA Girls Lacrosse Program has been to introduce
and teach the game of women's lacrosse in a safe and fun environment.
We offer our program out to the Unionville, Kennett Square and surrounding areas
from grades one through eight. We hope that our program will successfully
prepare girls for high school and perhaps collegiate play.
Our recreation program gives everyone the opportunity to play; however, beginning
participants in our program do need to make practices to learn proper skills of
the game to ensure they do not hurt themselves or someone else during game play.
We take safety seriously. If your child is unable to make several practices
especially at the beginning of the season, regardless of experience, her game time
participation may be cut back significantly or she may not get any game time at
all. If this is an issue, your coach will discuss this with you.
Our program has been fortunate, for years, to have many returning coaches, scheduling
coordinators and age group commissioners. As always, we can use your help
as we continue to grow and some of our long time volunteers move out of the program.
Please see the FAQs regarding helping even
if you do not have any lacrosse experience. As always, we do have resources
available to us that can be given out on loan that can go over the basics of the
game especially if you are interested in being an assistant coach. A great
book of reference can be found at Amazon called "Coaching Girls' Lacrosse:
A Baffled Parent's Guide" by Janine Tucker and Maryalice Yakutchik.
The FAQ's are also a great place to start if you have a daughter participating
in the game of lacrosse for the first time.
