Tournament Team Expectations

URA Girls Lacrosse Program also does have opportunities for girls to tryout for our Tournament Teams. We start the Tournament Teams at the age group 5 / 6 and carry one team at the 5 / 6 Program level and one team at the 7 / 8 Program Level. As the program grows and we have more volunteers, we could potentially have more teams at each of these age group levels. Because this is outside of the normal recreation program, all funding is provided by the parents of the participant playing for one of the tournament teams. Money is used for field usage fees, referee fees, equipment costs, tournament entry fees, insurance, if needed, and other tournament related fees as needed or required by tournaments entered. Coaches responsible will notify you if your child has been selected to participate on the team and what the expected fee for playing will be for that season.

Please keep in mind, these Tournament Teams play well into the summer and we expect to play, as we did last year, into August.

Expectations and Requirements

Tryouts are only held when the team number of players interested at either level exceeds twenty. If a tryout is necessary, the team coach will notify all players parents of the date and time of the tryout. It is required that all players wanting to participate on a tournament team, when a tryout is necessary, physically show up and stay for the full tryout to get fully evaluated.

Additionally we ask that all players considering a tournament team make this their highest sports priority. Information covered during practices should not have to be covered week in and week out due to continued absences. This does not help the other members of the tournament team continue to advance their skills and only slows down the overall development of the team. Although there are acceptable circumstances for players not making a practice or a game, we request this be kept to a minimum if at all.

Tryouts

If tryouts are conducted coaches participating will ensure that all evaluations are as objective as possible. Among the factors on which players are evaluated is speed, athletic ability, strength, endurance, stick skills and footwork. All girls attending a tryout will be notified shortly after the tryouts are complete if they have made the team. If, at any time, registration exceeds twenty potential players, you will be contacted immediately with tryout information.

Rec Teams and Tournament Teams

If your daughter makes a tournament team, she is automatically placed on the "A" Team roster for the Rec program during the spring. We want to continue to have these tournament teams play together as much as possible throughout the year. This also helps alleviate any concerns with conflicting or too much practice during the spring. Because PAGLA is broken down into different levels, this makes keeping the girls that play on these teams together easier and not break up the teams during the spring.

If my daughter makes a tournament team will she be allowed to play for other clubs?

If your daughter is playing with a URA Tournament Team we strongly suggest that she does not participate in any other club. There are a lot of other clubs that participate in the same tournaments in the local area that we will (and have) participate in throughout the year. Playing for multiple clubs creates conflicts and sometimes puts a girl in a tough position to have to choose where she will play for a particular tournament. If we know that your daughter does play for another club, and we do have to have tryouts, this will be part of the consideration for selection.

Where will you practice?

Practices will take place in the Kennett Square, West Chester or Unionville area. It can depend on weather or field usage rights. We may also rent space if needed.

Why does my daughter need to join US Lacrosse to participate?

For insurance purposes. Children annual membership fees are $25.00. This can be significantly less then adding additional fees into the tournament team fees since we have to have insurance to play in most tournaments, games etc. The annual membership fee also gets your daughter the US Lacrosse Magazine for the year. To join, you will need to have our CLUB MEMBERSHIP ID which is: 2524564 (Unionville Recreation Association Girls Lacrosse). Visit US Lacrosse to register your daughter.

Within tournaments, do all the girls play equal amounts?

All athletes will receive fair opportunties to compete but this does not always mean equal playing time. Playing time will be earned with hard work, attendance, attitude, coachability, and on-field success.

What is the refund policy?

In general, there are no refunds once a girl has made the team and the deposit check has been cashed. If there is a very special circumstance, it will be evaluated.

Once my daughter has made the team, will she be required to tryout each year?

Yes. It would be irresponsible of us not to evaluate each each girl's game and character are successfully growing. She must try out and make the team each year.
